With this new release, I had hoped to find a game that had integrated the best of those games with new graphics technology and better AI. After thouroughly enjoying the previous games in the series, I was thrilled with the limits that the designers had placed into those games a balance between combat and simulation building. Our enjoyment is dependant on individually exploring, and sometimes exceeding, those boundaries. is DEFINED by the limits that are placed by the game designers. All of the computer generated entertainment that we play - PC, XBox, etc. In theory I have to agree with mproviz it is strange that limits are placed on some resources (peasants) and not others (troops.) The 'medieval sim' nature of this game is not really balanced with the 'medieval combat' component. It removes some of the reality from the game, but it also adds many more gameplay options.

I guess what I'm saying is, that the removal of the military unit cap can do no harm in my opinion. Note: yes, I am aware that the unit cap required the use carefull tactics in order to prevail as one often needed to decide between defensive armies and offensive armies, but I still didn't like it Subsequently, I didn't have an expedition force and so I was obliged to use a skeleton crew for defensive purposes (which I absolutely didn't like) and use the rest of my military units to carefully assault the enemy. However, in SH1 and SHC this proved difficult, as it often was the case that I didn't even have enough military units to man all the towers (note: I'm not a tower-wall fan :| ), let alone to defend my walls. However, exactly because of the sheer size of my castles it requires a massive amount of units to defend it (I'm a super-defensive player and I like to have an occupation force in place that doesn't make my fortress look bad). I like to build colossal fortresses, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. On the other hand, I really like that they've removed the military unit cap. It does seem somewhat unrealistic that every single peasent requires food to be maintained together with a population limit (in Kingmaker and MP) whilst you can build armies totalling over 1000 units that don't require food (I know you can build more, but this is the approximate number where I will start to suffer from lag).
